Friday Fitness

Friday again and its been a week or exercise and eating. Just hope I'm doing enough of the former to mitigate the latter

Saturday
We packed up our camp at Wingan Inlet in Croajingalong (don't yah just love Australian Aboriginal Place names) National Park -  and moved on to Lakes Entrance. Not a big drive but not a pleasant one either - wind and rain. We stopped along the way to buy some lunch despite have packed sandwiches. It just wasn't sandwich type weather and besides too wet to stop at a roadside stop. We had fish and chips - not a success for Fixit Guy as his was a bit underdone and not nice. Mine was fine.
Cold and Bleak day heading into Lakes Entrance for groceries

It was very windy to set up at Lake Tyers and we had to really rope and peg everything down but even so... it was a rough night. It was also cold... much colder than it had been. We had toasted sandwiches and soup for lunch. Some jogging on the spot required to get me over the line re steps Total steps for the day 10 085

Sunday we went into church at Lakes Entrance and had a lovely chat to some of the ladies there. They are currently without a minister - the 3rd one we have been to on this trip. Our own announces she was leaving just before we set out on our trip. We met a friend for lunch in Sale and had a delisicious seafood fettucini (all locally sourced produce) and a scrummy cake afterwards. Visited an historic homestead and walked about the grounds a bit and then came back to camp and walked along the beach front ... nearly got blown away but great walk.Steps for day 10 304
With my friend Ange after lunch... it was very windy

Monday we drove inland. We visited an historic trestle bridge and then did a guided tour of the Fairy Cave at Buchan. Home again and another long walk along the beach. Not so windy and much more pleasant. Steps 12 678

Getting my arty on

Tuesday we drove around the forest area of Lake Tyers. We did several walks along the arm of the lake that becomes Boggy Creek (not a romantic or pretty name at all for a pretty spot) and another walk along the track to Lonely Bay. We had talked about going for a last walk along the beach but didn't get there. Instead I spent the rest of the afternoon working on my Jeans Jeans QUilt and got it finished. We did go across to the Waterwheel Pub, which was just across the road from our camping ground for dinner. The food was so good. I had calamari for entree and pork ribs for mains. If I had known how big the servings were or how good the ribs were I wouldn't have bothered with entree.. Best ribs I've ever had. We were glad of the extra quilt that night and for the next couple as the weather got colder again at night.steps 15 997

Wednesday we packed up the camp and moved on to Duck Point, which is near Yanakie, the gateway to Wilson's Promontory, a national park area including the southern most tip of Australian mainland. It was pretty windy when we got in and we decided against putting the annexe up as it is a tricky job when the wind is blowing. For dinner we had a bbq, cooked on the electric bbqs at the camping ground. We didn't set up out gas stove at all, boiling our water in the camp kitchen (just a jug, toaster and microwave in the laundry... most basic camp kitchen so far on the trip) and making toast in their for breakfast.. FG was coming down with a cold and feeling rather miserable. We got the heater out and warmed up the inner tent quite nicely. We hunkered down in there and let the wind blow around us (after we had pegged down as securely as we could. We did go for a walk after we had set up camp along the foresure of the inlet (it was called Corner Inlet) We saw heaps of black swans out on the water and various other water fowl too. Steps 10 659

Thursday we had to head back into the nearest town to get some medication for FG who was coughing and blowing a fair bit. However we still went into the National Parks and did a couple of walks - one along a couple of beaches and over the headland between them and another billed as Wildlife Walk. We saw a mob of kangaroos and a flock of emus so it lived up to its name. Saw a couple of wombats earlier as we were driving along. steps 16 802

Friday. Today its just been packing up and unpacking day. We packed up the camp at Duck Point and drove into Melbourne to our camping ground at Coburg, which is not exactly inner but not far out either from the city. The camping facility is not as cramped and crowded as many city camping grounds tend to be and there is lots of green lawns about and shady trees. We are VERY handy to the loos and showers so not many steps to be had getting to and from then. Think my step count today is going to be pretty low. Not any nice beaches or rivers or national park walking tracks nearby to tempt us out for some exercise and with FG still coughing and blowing I doubt he will want to go far. Might be some jogging on the spot for me tonight. Steps 5898 (so far)

So how about you? How have you gone with your fitness aims this week?

WIP Wednesday - a finish

We have had 4 camping here at Lake Tyers and its been a powered sight which means... yes I could sew away. So... lots of progress. So much so that I have a finish. Yes Jean's Jean Quilt is done. Whoot. I had it prepped and read to go when we hit the road a month ago but had done no sewing so it has been totally put together as we have travelled down the Eastern Coast of Australia from Brisbane to Lakes Entrance in Victoria (with a slight detours up to Maroochydore and out to Bundanoon)

I completed it yesterday and I am so excited to be able to finally have a finish to count next Sunday in my Stash Report.

Partly put together - 4 strips sewn together on the bed in the camper

All done! Laid out on the lawn at Lake Tyers

So now I have to find another machine project to do work on this trip. My next one will be the border for Vanishing Hours. I bought all the left overs from the blocks and plan to make a piano keyboard. I am not sure if I have to dimensions with me but will make it as big as I can and can put left overs into the backing or if there's not enough make some more when I get home.

Tea Shop Quilt.
Whilst we were at Croajingalong National Park and without power I got a couple of blocks on this completed but didn't work on it any more once we left there. I will do a bit on it in Melbourne as we will be visiting friends and family and I can do that whilst I sit and chat.

So how about you? What have you been up to this week? Do comment please either here or on Facebook or Twitter. Love to see and hear of other things underway

Monday Musing Checking in on my Octover Goals and My November Goals

October Goals
1) Work on my Jean's Jeans Quilt
I have been working away steadily on this since we have been on holidays. I have half of the strips put together. It will be finished before we get home

2) Finish all the blocks for Vanishing Hours
This was an at home project and I did get the extra blocks I decided I wanted for the extra row made before we left home
3)  Finish prepping Hand work on Tea Shop Quilt. Cut all the squares for the appliques squares. Start work on it
Have finished all the applique blocks I had made before I left home and have made some new ones and finished a couple of those too. Its been a lovely project to have with me

4)  Make some mini quilts as gifts.
I can’t think what I meant by this when I wrote it. I haven’t made any mini quilts though. Maybe it was an extra to do if I got my other project ie Jean’s Jeans finished
5)      Practice some of the stuff from Photography class on Craftsy
Nope it hasn't happened. Well I have been taking photos (heaps since I checked in mid-month) and have been using my small camera. I have been thinking about my shots and composing them a little more and working on using a few other settings on it rather than just A for automatic so maybe that counts.

So I can say that I have accomplished 4 of my 5 goals for October

Now for my November goals
1)      Finish Jean’s Jean quilt
2)      Continue working on the teashop applique. If I get the blocks all done start to put it together if circumstances allow
3)      Make piano keys border for Vanishing hours quilt
4)      Make October and November BOMs from local quilt group

That should just about cover it, given that I will be travelling for all of November. If I do get the Jeans quilt and the border and the blocks all made I will have to come up with another machine project. Same with if I finish my hand project. I bought a quilt magazine in Sydney that had an embroidery pattern in it that I might have a go at if I have time..

What about you? Do you have some projects in mind for this month? Perhaps you are going to make some gifts. Tell me about them

Sunday Stash Report from Lake Tyers

No finishes and no purchases again this week
Made some progress though

Whilst at our last camping site, Wingan Inlet, we had no power so no machine sewing could be done. I had thought that I might get it out and do some pinning and hand darning of holes but nope.. did nothing at all on this quilt.
fetching water at Lake Wingan

We arrived here at Lake Tyers, near Lakes Entrance yesterday. I had thought I might get straight down to some sewing but by the time we set up, washed and dried 2 loads of washing,  went into Lakes Entrance to do some grocery shopping, unpacked that, had my first shower in 3 days and washed my hair… I came back to the tent, crawled into bed with a Mills and Boon novel I had found in the laundry and read that. It was cold and so windy. We had put heaps of extra pegs all around the tent and roped it down well. But it still flapped and lifted here and there and was by far the most unpleasant evening and night we have had in our camper trailer this trip.

This morning though I was in a sewing frame of mind so after I persuaded myself to crawl out of my warm bed and get dressed I sat down at my machine and sewed happily for an hour or so before we set off for church. I did a bit more between getting home from church and when we went out for lunch. I had sewed one strip on and pressed the "leaves" open before church and got them stitched down before we went to lunch.

Our  lunch date was at the little seaside town of Metung with my friend Ange and her husband (we have met in person before but mostly we know each other through an internet group of current and former ABA counsellors) - Ange and I had the MOST yummy seafood linguine - using local fresh seafood.

Afterwards Fixit Guy and I went to visit an historic homestead called Nyerimilang Homestead We enjoyed exploring the house and the garden although because it was still cool we didn't spend as long outside as we might. The view was magnificent and I would love to go back and see a bit more when its not so chilly. In the house I was delighted to find a bed made up with this lovely hand made quilt and a singer sewing machine in the corner. Unfortunately the room was also being used to store bathroom supplies so it wasn't being shown to its best advantage.

Back at the tent I got some more stitching done around going for a walk along the beach and the cliff top and managing not to get blown off the cliff or swept away by the crashing waves.  I could sew tonight but instead I am going to have a shower and climb into my nice warm bed and read another trashy novel. Its definitely the weather for it. It doesn't seem as blustery tonight but its still a might bit chilly.

Jeans Jean’s Quilt – Denim circle quilt

I have finished today with 4 strips sewn together(3seams) although only one seam has the leaves all zigzagged down. Still that is basically half the quilt together so I'm getting there. I have another 4 strips to sew on and zigzag down and then do all the outside leaves ie zigzag them down too.
Here's a picture of what I have accomplished so far. Not the best shot but no design wall here in the tent and I forgot to get a shot before it got dark... and its too blowy outside to get any sort of photo except maybe the quilt disappearing over a tree!

Tea Shop Quilt
Progress is being made on this one. I completed another couple of of blocks whilst at Wingan Inlet. FIxit Guy and I had a little bit of time sitting around the campsite, he read and I stitched. I thought I might do more at night but we tended to sit by the campfire till bed time and that is not good stitching light or space.

Fitness Friday on Saturday

Friday Fitness on Saturday

This report is a bit late as we haven’t had internet access for that last 3 days that we have been camping at Wingan Inlet.

Saturday
We arrived at Beachcomber Resort, Potato Point near Bodalla. We walked along the beach and that combined with out packing up the camp and setting it up again made up the days steps. Steps 12 923

Sunday
We went into church at Bodalla and afterwards had a walk about the town including exploring the historic Anglican Church there. In the afternoon we walked along the beach again Steps 11 619

Monday we packed up the camp and moved to Bega/ We stopped at Central Tilba en route and explored the quaint little town. At Bega we set up camp in town and used the washing machines rather urgently! We drove out along the coast and amongst other things explored the historic wharf at Tathra. We went looking for lunch but every where we came to had stopped serving lunch. It was after 2. Eventually we found a bakery at Merimbula and had yummy pies there. Did some shopping for groceries on our way back to the camp and that helped with the days step count. Steps 10 859

Tuesday we spent the day exploring beaches in the beautiful Mimosa Rocks National Park. We walked Middle Beach and saw the lagoon there as well. We walked out to Wajurda Point and down to Moon Bay Steps. 9 676

Wednesday we again packed up camp and moved to Wingan Inlet. We set up camp after we had some lunch and then walked along the beach – 20 min walk down there and a pretty long beach to explore. Steps 16 833

Thursday we drove to Point Hicks and walked 2.2km each way from the car park to the lighthouse.

Friday walked to the jetty and then back down to the beach in the morning. In the afternoon we walked 2km each way to the Elusive Lake.Steps 11 416

Friday we stayed around the camp for the first part of the morning. Fixit Guy read his kindle and I did some hand stitching. Then we walked to the jetty and met a pelican who was very comfortable sitting on the rail of the jetty. I got some great pictures before he finally flew off.

We walked down to the beach again and looked at the seals on their rocks and even had a paddle for the first time this trip.

After lunch we drove down to the start of the Elusive Lake track and then walked in to view the fresh water lake. The walk was very pretty with heaps of wildflowers out. The lake itself wasn't all that impressive. Steps 18 151

I was surprised to find that two days I was under my 10 000 steps. A few big days made up for them though.

I am not going to go into my diet. I'm on holidays. We've had beautiful local cheeses each night with a glass or two of wine, desert most nights and nibbles in the car. My walking is I hope keeping the weight gain under control a little bit.

I have been taking heaps of photos of wildflowers this trip. Many I don't know the name of. If you would like to see more of them I might make a special post featuring the photos. Alternatively I can post them to an album on facebook and link to them... or I guess I could do the same with an album on ... gah can't think of the name of the webpage we put photos on. Sorry. Brain dead. Let me know if you want to see them
